Top 10 Camera/Photo Bestsellers – April 2011

by Aaron Hockley on April 2, 2011

I postponed this for a couple days due to not wanting any April Fools’ interference but it’s it’s time for my monthly look at the top-selling camera and photo items as measured by Amazon.com.

What the Duck?Big shakeups on this month’s list, with the Nikon D7000 finally making an appearance and all Canon DSLRs dropping away.

  1. Flip UltraHD Video Camera – Black, 8 GB – The Flip UltraHD has long been the standard for a pocket HD video camera. It’s on the bestseller list month after month; I think this is the first time at the top position.
  2. Nikon D3100 Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens – Nikon’s D3100 is a good “first DSLR” at an affordable price. Serious amateurs or pros will want more features but for someone just getting started, the D3100 is a nice kit.
  3. Kodak PlaySport (Zx3) HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera – Like the Flip camera above, this is another popular pocket video camera – this time in the waterproof variety. Seems like it would be a good choice for winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding.
  4. Canon Powershot A800 Digital Camera – Canon’s A series Powershot cameras are really popular. The A800 offers a ten-megapixel camera in a neat looking pocket sized package.
  5. Nikon D7000 Digital SLR (Body Only) – I love my D7000 and I’m not surprised to see it on this months’ bestseller list. It would’ve been on the list sooner if only Nikon could keep the flow of new bodies flowing to meet demand.
  6. Canon PowerShot SX30IS Digital Camera – a nice sub-$200 point and shoot that features a big rear display along with a 12X optical zoom to get up close without having to get too close. This form factor with a large zoom lens is popular – it’s not a shocker that a high-quality Canon camera like this is selling well.
  7. GoPro HD Motorsports HERO Camera – a popular HD video camera that has burst onto the mobile video scene primarily because of the included mounting kit which allow sit to easily be attached to helmets, sports equipment, or vehicles. Hands-free video for sports and other activities.
  8. Canon G12 10MP Digital Camera – Canon’s G12 is a popular everyday camera amongst pro photographers. It’ll fit into a jacket pocket and offers great image quality including RAW file support.
  9. Kodak Zi8 Pocket Video Camera – Kodak’s Zi8 offers great HD video in a small package, with the additional useful feature of an external microphone input which means you’ll be able to record higher-quality audio. It seems that portable video is popular this month.
  10. Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20 Digital Camera – Panasonic is producing some great compact cameras – this purse-sized one should offer great images for the casual photographer who doesn’t need more serious gear.
