iPads are great for showing photos, but the sync experience through iTunes (or the option of manually sending photos off of the device via email) leaves something to be desired if you want to make the photo collection on your iPad available to others. Enter WiFi MediaBox [iTunes link], a simple app which allows your iPad photo libraries to be browsed over wifi.
I tried it out at my house and it’s darned easy. Fire up WiFi MediaBox and it’ll give you an IP address and port to access the device. Go to any computer on the same WiFi network and enter the address into your web browser and you’re presented with a simple browsable grid of all of the photos on the iPad. Here’s a screenshot:
In the browser view, the photos appear slightly burred as thumbnails which seemed like quite an annoyance, although clicking on a particular image led to the larger (and clearer) image file. From there, one can save files locally.
If you’re looking for a quick/easy way to share iPad photos over WiFi, the WiFi Media Box app is a quick/easy/cheap way to do it.
I’m not trying to turn this site into an iPad software review site, but hey, I keep finding cool things for photographers to do with their iPad.
