Top 10 Camera & Photo Bestsellers as of February 2011

by Aaron Hockley on February 1, 2011

It’s the first of the month which means it’s time for my periodic look at the top-selling camera and photo items as measured by the folks at Amazon.com.

What the Duck? We’ve passed the Christmas season and things are starting to look a bit less gift-y on the bestsellers list.

  1. Panasonic HDC-SD600K High-Def Camcorder – this is an oddity; a camcorder at the top of the bestsellers list. I blame the ridiculously large discount.
  2. Canon PowerShot S95 10 MP Digital Camera – the S90 is my current pocketable compact camera of choice, and the S95 is even better. Now less than $400 this is a VERY popular item amongst all photographers, consumer and pro alike.
  3. Flip UltraHD Video Camera – Black, 8 GB – The Flip UltraHD is now the standard for a pocket HD video camera. It offers high-def video recording (up to two hours) in a simple to use package which is why it remains on the bestseller list month after month.
  4. Kodak Zi8 Pocket Video Camera – Like the Flip, the Kodak Zi8 offers great HD video in a small package, with the additional useful feature of an external microphone input which means you’ll be able to record higher-quality audio.
  5. Nikon D3100 Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens – Aimed at those looking to buy their first DSLR, Nikon’s D3100 offers quite a few features in a sub-$600 deal.
  6. Canon PowerShot SX130IS Digital Camera – a nice sub-$200 point and shoot that features a big rear display along with a 12X optical zoom to get up close without having to get too close. My wife enjoys her camera that has a similar form factor – it’s not a shocker that a high-quality Canon camera like this is selling well.
  7. Canon PowerShot SD1300 IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera – Canon’s SD1300IS is currently the item of choice for someone looking for a small, cheap compact camera if they don’t need the better features of the S95.
  8. Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 12.1 MP Digital Camera – If you want a feature-packed compact camera and aren’t interested in the Canon S95, consider Panasonic’s DMC-ZS7 as a worthy alternative.
  9. Kodak PlaySport (Zx3) HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera Bundle – Going skiing? Just trying to make it through snowpocalypse? A waterproof flip-style camera seems like a good idea to capture the action on the slopes or around town in inclement weather conditions.
  10. Canon G12 10MP Digital Camera – Canon’s G12 is a bit bigger than the S95 but offers similar features. It’ll fit into a jacket pocket and offers great image quality including RAW file support. Another great camera from Canon.
