It’s the time when folks are making goals for 2011. While I’m sure you have various plans for the new year, might I suggest a goal that can fuel your creativity: rent a lens for something different than what you usually shoot.
I’ve become a fan of Camera Rental and Canon/Nikon Lens Rentals by BorrowLenses.com.
- Rent a wide-angle fisheye. Sigma has some super-wide lenses that are fun. I rented a 4.5mm fisheye for a Las Vegas trip – here’s one of the photos.
- Rent a super-telephoto lens. If you’re not a serious wildlife photographer you probably haven’t been able to justify the cost of a 500mm prime, but renting one is a lot more affordable.
- Rent some really-fast glass. Are you used to shooting around f/4? Rent a 50mm f/1.2 lens and enjoy that bokeh.
- Rent a new camera body. Wondering if the Nikon D7000 is all the hotness that it claims to be? Curious if the swing-out screen on the Canon 60D is useful? Rent a body for a few days and try it out!
