It seems there are web tools for almost anything; my favorite tools are usually ones that tackle one task and do it well. I recently learned of Photovisi, a free service which easily allows one to create collages or other multiple-photo creations via an easy to use website.
The basic flow of the application is simple: choose from a predefined collage template, upload your photos from your computer or webcam, the make any desired tweaks to the layout of the photos. The resulting collage can be saved back to your computer as a JPG.
Things are simple enough and the Photovisi service does just what it says that it does. Currently one needs to upload files directly from a computer; it would be a nice feature addition to be able to point the service to a Flickr, SmugMug, or Facebook album and have images imported directly. Another potential workflow improvement would be export plugins for Lightroom or Aperture. In addition to downloading a JPG back to one’s computer, there’s also an option to share the resulting collage on Facebook which is a nice touch. I could see things like collages being interesting to share with one’s friends and followers.
Despite the slight inconvenience of having to upload files manually to the Photovisi service, it’s a quick and easy to way to create fun photo collages.
