Top 10 Camera & Photo Bestsellers: October 2010

by Aaron Hockley on November 1, 2010

And just like that we’re into November… let’s take a fresh look at the top-selling camera and photography items as calculated by the fine folks at Amazon.com.

What the Duck? The top spots on the list remain the same as last month, but it’s nice to see Nikon make its way back to the bestseller list after a few-month absence. Also… a strobe is on the bestseller list for the first time!

  1. Canon PowerShot S95 10 MP Digital Camera – the sequel to Canon’s wildly successful S90, this is arguably the best camera for its size on the market. In its second month at the top of the bestsellers list, the S95 adds new features including HD video and even better low-light performance. If you want a pocketable quality camera, this is the one.
  2. Flip UltraHD Video Camera – Black, 8 GB – Flip has made a name for itself as the leader in the compact video recorder market and for good reason. The Flip UltraHD offers high-def video recording (up to two hours) in a pocket-sized, easy-to-use package. This item was also the #2 seller in my October 1st update.
  3. Fujifilm FinePix S1800 12.2 MP Digital Camera – Moving up one spot on the list we have a powerful camera from Fuji. My wife has a previous version of this camera, it produces great images and offers easy to understand controls. The 18x optical zoom means that far-away subjects can still look great.
  4. Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens – Jumping up a few spots on the bestsellers list is Canon’s T1i, a great entry-level DSLR offering good quality still images as well as video for under $700 with a lens. My first DSLR was Canon’s original Digital Rebel, and they’ve continued to offer good quality at a very reasonable price.
  5. Nikon Coolpix L22 12.0 MP Digital Camera – this red camera from Nikon debuts at the #5 spot on the bestsellers list. Selling for under $90, this looks like a decent point-and-shoot camera that includes an image stabilization system and the ability to record standard-def video.
  6. Kodak Zi8 Pocket Video Camera (Black) – Although not as popular as the Flip, Kodak’s Zi8 has some great features including an external microphone jack. I have a Zi8 that I’ll be giving away in the next month or so here at Picture Pundit – so be sure to stay tuned if you’d like a chance to win this camera.
  7. Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 12.1 MP Digital Camera – a nice little compact camera that maintains its presence on the bestseller list.
  8. Flip UltraHD Video Camera – Black, 8 GB OLD MODEL – an older model of the Flip camera at the #2 spot above that’s still on the bestseller list. Great camera, but I’d grab the newer version.
  9. Canon PowerShot SD1400IS 14.1 MP Digital Camera – Canon’s PowerShot cameras are always popular and the SD1400IS packs a nice featureset into a sub-$200 compact.
  10. Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash – for the first time since I started tracking the top sellers, a strobe unit is on the list. Canon’s 430 EX II is a great flash at a great price, and with the increasing popularity of off-camera lighting it doesn’t suprise me to see a flash unit amongst the top selling gear.
