Lens and Camera Rentals: A BorrowLenses.com Review

by Aaron Hockley on October 6, 2010

Like many new-ish photographers, I dove headfirst into equipment purchases. The result was that I ended up buying a few lenses that I no longer use very much because either a) I’m doing a different type of photography or b) I only really needed that lens a couple times each year. In short, I probably should’ve rented lenses instead of buying them before I really knew the long-term situation.

The Antmates Are Running the AsylumSince then, I’ve gotten wiser and have rented gear when I haven’t had a long-term need. I’ve rented from my local brick-and-mortar shop several times, but for a recent extended trip I tried BorrowLenses.com to see how they stacked up when it came to equipment and price.

I was impressed. BorrowLenses.com offers a wide variety of gear – in my case I wanted to obtain a circular fisheye for some fun photos while on a trip for a conference. About a month ahead of time I placed my order and the lens arrived right on time at my doorstep. The lens was in good condition and came with a prepaid shipping label so that I could drop it off when finished. I used the lens to create some pictures and enjoyed the fact that I could simply drop it off at FedEx instead of having to make the 20-mile drive to return equipment in town.

After my great experience as a customer I decided to become a BorrowLenses.com affiliate – if you follow my links I get a small commission, but that’s not why I’m mentioning them. I mention them because they are a good vendor with a good service at a competitive price. If you need to rent gear, check out BorrowLenses.com for your camera lens rental.
