Top 10 Camera & Photo Bestsellers: September 2010

by Aaron Hockley on October 1, 2010

It’s the first of a new month, so let’s continue my tradition and look at the top-selling camera and photography items for the past month as calculated by the fine folks at Amazon.com.

What the Duck? This month we see a new #1 item and some familiar faces on the rest of the list including a couple Canon DSLRs. Once again Nikon is absent from the bestsellers…

  1. Canon PowerShot S95 10 MP Digital Camera – the sequel to Canon’s wildly successful S90, this is arguably the best camera for its size on the market. The S95 adds new features including HD video and even better low-light performance. If you want a pocketable quality camera, this is the one.
  2. Flip UltraHD Video Camera – Black, 8 GB – Flip has made a name for itself as the leader in the compact video recorder market and for good reason. The Flip UltraHD offers high-def video recording (up to two hours) in a pocket-sized, easy-to-use package.
  3. Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 12.1 MP Digital Camera – a great compact camera for Panasonic and repeat visitor to the top-seller list.
  4. Fujifilm FinePix S1800 12.2 MP Digital Camera – a powerful camera from Fuji. My wife has a previous version of this camera, it produces great images and offers easy to understand controls. The 18x optical zoom means that far-away subjects can still look great.
  5. Flip UltraHD Video Camera – Black, 8 GB OLD MODEL – an older model of the Flip camera at the #2 spot above. Great camera, but I’d grab the newer version.
  6. Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20 14.1 MP Digital Camera – a great little compact camera from Panasonic. The company has really become a leader in compact camera features and functionality, and this camera’s image quality makes it a great deal.
  7. Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens – offering good quality still images as well as video, Canon’s T1i packs a lot of DSLR power for the price (under $700, with lens, as of 10/1/2010). My first DSLR was Canon’s original Digital Rebel, and they’ve continued to offer good quality at a very reasonable price.
  8. Kodak PlaySport (Zx3) HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera (Black) – Similar to the Flip camera above, Kodak’s Zx3 also offers a waterproof casing, making it perfect for watersports or other outdoor use.
  9. Canon EOS Rebel T2i 18MP Digital SLR Camera and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens – Another HD-video capable DSLR from Canon, this one offers a few improvements over the T1i while still being available at a very reasonable price.
  10. Kodak Zi8 Pocket Video Camera (Black) – This would be the camera to get if you don’t want the more popular Flip. The Zi8 actually has some nice advantages including an external microphone jack.
