Why (as a Photographer) You Should Attend BlogWorld 2010

by Aaron Hockley on August 3, 2010

This October is BlogWorld and New Media Expo, a big conference for bloggers, social media pros, podcasters, and anyone involved with online publication. I attended last year and learned quite a bit. Here’s one thing I learned:

There aren’t many pro photographers in attendance. This is precisely why you gain an advantage by attending.

When I talk to photographers about blogging and online marketing, two of the most common reasons I hear for blogging failure is that either the photographer runs out of ideas for fresh content or ways to market their work online, or that the photographer really wants to focus on online activities designed to drive revenue.

BlogWorld offers sessions specifically aimed to solve those two situations. There are panels that talk about online marketing opportunities and content creation as well as an entire track devoted to monetization: how to make your online efforts pay. Heck, there’s even one session devoted to photography (being led by Kris Krüg and yours truly).

If you register by September 16th, you can take advantage of discount pricing which makes the Weekend Pass only $395 (a heck of a deal and money that you can likely recover with one good photography sale using some of that online marketing skill you’ll learn at the conference). The conference organizers even setup a sweet room deal at the Mandalay Bay (where the conference is held) so we won’t have to spend time in transit and can make the most of networking opportunities.

Hit this banner to register, and be sure to read below for a special BlogWorld event only for Picture Pundit readers.

Picture Pundit meetup plans: If you’re a photographer (either pro or hobbyist… so I guess that covers pretty much everyone) going to BlogWorld, leave a comment on this post. I’ll invite up to the first 20 commenters to a Picture Pundit happy hour – have a beverage on me while we chat photography, blogging, and whatever else is on our minds.

I hope to see you at BlogWorld 2010!

Great post and I'm planning on being at BlogWorld – would love to meet up to talk photos and also blogging…as I'm also working with BlogWorld and know you're a photographer extraordinare, maybe you might be interested in the Flickr photo group we've set up to connect photographers with one another with the common purpose of photography & BlogWorld? http://www.flickr.com/groups/blogworld/

Okay, enough of the pitch…always hear good things about the BlogWorld photowalks and have yet to partake in it, but love Kris Krug's work and I'm sure that anyone who joins in on the fun will definitely learn a lot from it. Do you have any more info about the photowalk yet – like where you'll be going to or date/time?

Excellent post! This will be my third year in attendance, and can't wait to attend. I am like a kid in a candy store from a photography perspective. I know event photography is one thing most photographers can't stand, but if it is your niche, it is a great event to attend! Not to mention the networking that can be had by talking to people, and the knowledge from attending sessions.

I would love to meet up with other photog's during BlogWorld! Maybe we can all get together and organize a photowalk as well?

    I love this!

A photowalk is a great idea. Last year Victor Cajiao led one; I should get in touch with him and see if he's attending again this year.

Thanks for the comment Ken. I'll check out the Flickr group and get some of my photos from last year added to the pool.

No details on the photowalk yet but I'll see what I can figure out. I'm actually going to be in Las Vegas for a workshop starting this weekend, I might scope out some potential locations…

Great points Aaron, I won’t be able to attend this year but will make it part of my plans in ’11.
